Just a bit outside

Neil Walker lived through the worst times, as a Pirates fan, prospect and starting second baseman. He hit a double that barely missed being a home run, scored a run, drove one in and had two hits Tuesday as the Pittsburgh Pirates extended its October run by defeating the Cincinnati Reds in a one-off Wild Card game.

Walker’s father piloted planes for the late great Roberto Clemente’s relief drives in Latin America. His life was spared after Clemente gave him the day off on that fatal flight to Nicaragua in 1972. Walker was born 13 years later.¬†
